Exodus 32:1-20 (with Matthew 22:1-15)

The Golden Calf incident is not just a reminder about idolatry; itâs a reminder that community is hard. Our relationships donât take long to unravel in a world where we live amidst the mess of selfish ambition and impatience and desires for control. But in this first great falling out between God and Godâs covenant community, Mosesâ willingness to stick with relationship calls out to us as well: calls us, if we are to be Godâs people, to keep turning, keep changing, keep remembering, keep choosing communityâfor without the community, how can we ever imagine the promises of God coming true?
